Session Preparation Tips
Wondering how you can make the most out of your photoshoot? Here are some of my best tips and ideas I’ve acquired over the years.
Outfit Planning:
Make sure you coordinate outfits with all of your family members, your significant other etc. if you are having a family or couple photoshoot. Matching or similar colors always visually unify individuals photographed together.
Bring multiple pairs of shoes if needed. Sometimes, getting to photoshoot locations means walking through sand, dirt etc., so be sure to bring a pair of sneakers or old shoes to walk in, and then change into your photoshoot shoes at the location.
Remember to take off any smartwatches, hair ties, sunglasses etc off of your body before shooting. I’ve had clients request to have me Photoshop out their hair ties or smart watches before, and it takes a long time. Removing unwanted items (and straightening out jewelry!) can help save me a lot of time in post-processing your images.
Poses:
My number one tip would always be to view inspiration pictures and collect ideas that way. Pinterest, Instagram, and other social media platforms are always useful at showing you specified results and compiling them into collection.
View videos and tutorials from professionals who offer their knowledge. There are so many models, photographers, and others who work in that industry who share their knowledge on YouTube and other platforms.
Practice! Whether by yourself, with your family or significant other, gather ideas of poses you would like to have photographed and practice them in the mirror. Also, if you know your smile in photographs looks forced (like mine) find something that really makes you laugh and try to use that to get a more genuine smile while shooting.
Locations:
While I’m fairly new to Provo, here are some photo locations I love to shoot at. If you are struggling to figure out where to shoot, feel free to take a look at these places!
